Advices for career planning

Career planning is not an activity that should be done once – in high school or college – and then left aside during career. Rather, career planning is an activity that has the desired effect only if done regularly, especially because, as demonstrated, a worker will change careers (not only jobs) several times throughout life. And it’s never too early or too late to start planning your career.

Most people do not keep a record of their professional achievements and every time they look for a new job are facing difficulty to create their CV. The analysis of previous achievements – keeping a record of it –is not only helpful in creating a CV, but also in career planning. Sometimes the review of previous achievements will reveal forgotten successes, one or more, that can give you the starting point of researching and planning a change of career, so that you get a job that will allow you to do the things that make you happy and proud.

  • Identify your skills that you can use: Some employees are so absorbed in their professions they cannot see other career opportunities for themselves. Every job requires a particular set of qualities and is much better to fit in a certain category according to these qualities than depending on the job title.
  • Revise job and career trends: We all have professional opportunities and even if you do not have the expected success in a particular field, if you have excellent qualities and you know how to ‘sell’ yourself you will certainly find a new job. However, the information about professional trends are vital to you for a successful career planning, on long-term.
  • A professional field found today in development can go wrong tomorrow, or next year. It is important to note which jobs will increase, in perspective, especially in areas that interest you most. Besides the knowledge of these trends, another advantage of this research is the power that gives you to strengthen or adjust your professional position and goals. One of the secrets of a successful job and career is holding a full set of achievements, qualities and studies that make of you a better candidate for that field.
  • Establish your professional goals: Establish a route to a professional success. You can be successful in a field without setting your goals? Yes. But you can have even more success, by setting your goals? Most research says yes.
  • An essential part of a career planning is to set short-term professional goals (a year), medium (next year) and long term. Another component of career planning is formed by the review and adjustment of objectives during the evolution or change of plans and the development of new objectives while fulfilling the previous.

Do not wait too long to make career related plans. Career planning can have multiple benefits, from goal setting to a successful life. And if it seems like you can’t get a job that you’re satisfied with, or which provides you with good intellectual challenges, then you could consider starting your own business. Some of the best small business ideas started in garages and turned into multi-million success stories; as long as you’re passionate about something, and know that other people are too, you may be able to provide them with products or services that they require. Moreover, the best small business ideas are always non-conformist, so don’t hesitate to be daring, to come up with something new and exciting, something that challenges people, or the way we look at the world.
